The board came up with seven work areas to be strengthened over the next few years and chose three top priorities to address in 2026. The top priorities for the coming year are
1. Professional Development
We’re looking to expand professional development opportunities, in particular beyond the Hazmat Summit. We’ll be ramping up webinar offerings and looking for other ways to provide professional development that doesn’t require a lot of travel.
In all of our professional development we’ll be focusing on emerging topics of interest such as
- Climate driven workplace safety issues
- Emerging EHS Digital Tools / Digital Literacy
- Monitoring and Communicating “What’s Next”
- Global Law & Regulation
2. Professional Networking
We’re looking for new ways to facilitate professional networking among our members. We know that one of the greatest values AHMP members receive is the relationships we build with other members. The Summit was an amazing networking opportunity, but not everyone can get to the Hazmat Summit every year. Some of the initiatives already on the table include:
- Encouraging the creation of new sections where AHMP membership levels can support them and leaders can be found.
- Supporting local events across the country in the absence of local Chapters or Sections.
- Establishing mentorship programs so that the veterans among us can help support the next generation of EHS/Hazmat managers.
3. Marketing and Market Development
Finally, we’re doubling down on understanding the EHS/Hazmat profession, and the needs of Hazmat professionals and ensuring that we meet those needs. Initiatives include
- Being intentional in the systematic onboarding of new members.
- Dialog with current college student members around the question “What Can We Do for You?”
- Establishing a robust Student Chapter model and standing up at least one prototype student chapter at a college or university.
- Working up a “Student Ambassador” program to represent AHMP on college campuses.
4. Priorities for Future Efforts
Other priorities that the Board agreed to, but did not consider quite as urgent included
- Increased Advocacy for the Profession and Credentials
- Increased EHS Informational Resources
(Technical White Papers, Improved Newsletter, Web Resources)
- Increased Institutional Engagement
(Organizational Memberships and Strategic Partnerships)
- Focus on Building Volunteer Leadership
In all of these efforts, your ideas and feedback are welcome. And your participation would be greatly appreciated. If you want to discuss any of the above or if you have any ideas for program or are interested in becoming more involved in AHMP committee work or other activities, please reach out to any of us, or email [email protected].
We look forward to working with you throughout the year and hopefully seeing you in person in New Orleans, September 28 – October 1, 2026!

EHMM Scholarship Winner
Congratulations to the 2025 Q3 EHMM Scholarship Winner - Alexander Ahlquist!
“I've been a Lab Pack Chemist for the past year and a half in a field I had very little knowledge about, but am enjoying very much. Every day on the job I feel like I'm learning, but often I work by myself in the field. I'm looking forward to taking the EHMM Fall course and meeting other professionals. Even if it might seem a bit over my head at the moment, I want to understand more fully the Hazardous Materials pipeline from cradle to grave. Thank you so much for this opportunity, AHMP! Everyone I have interacted with so far via e-mail has been lovely, and I'm looking forward to meeting more professionals in EHS!”
Alexander is currently enrolled in the EHMM Fall Night School course.
